Project duration
July 2026 – November 2027
Short description
The ICFG is collaborating with the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Jordan on a research project examining menstrual health in the workplace in the Jordanian education sector. Menstrual pain can have a significant impact on quality of life; symptoms such as low mood, sleep disturbances and limitations in everyday functioning lead to absenteeism and reduced work performance. Due to stigma and fear of negative consequences, many menstruating individuals continue working despite discomfort, which often results in greater productivity loss through presenteeism and increased psychological strain, as well as exposure to workplace discrimination.
In many Middle Eastern and North African countries, including Jordan, menstruation remains a taboo subject and is under-researched. To examine the experiences and conditions relating to menstrual health within the Jordanian education sector, a qualitative and exploratory research design is being used, involving interviews with experts and women educators.
